What is Christian Science?

How is it Christian and Science?

Christian Science is Christian because it fully follows Christ Jesus’ words and works. It is Science, because it is the Science of divine laws and their application to daily life.

The dictionary.com definition of ‘science’ includes: “a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws”.

Is Christian Science faith healing?

No. Nor is it positive thinking, nor self-hypnosis.

What is the history of Christian Science?

In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy discovered the Science of the Christianity as taught and lived by Christ Jesus. She published her primary book about it in 1875, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Then in 1879, she founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, “to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing” (Church Manual, p.17).

How is the church governed?

The Manual of the Mother Church, contains rules and by-laws for the government of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts (The Mother Church) and its branches worldwide. Each Christian Science branch is democratically self-governed by its members.
