A God of love only

“God is a God of love only, and not a God of both love and hate” – that’s the inspired thought that came to this writer when he was a little boy. Throughout this man’s life, accepting the nature of God as Love alone, brought healing to all kinds of issues – from scarlet fever to an injured foot to business relationships.  Read how …

Cherishing Christmas

Amidst the clamour of materialism and human “busyness” at Christmastime, it can be difficult to remember the real meaning of Christmas. Despite her preparations, this young mother’s Christmas seemed ruined when her husband came home ill. Read how she prayed and found her peace, and health was restored.
"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. ... And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
Luke 2:10, 11, 13, 14
"In different ages the divine idea assumes different forms, according to humanity's needs. In this age it assumes, more intelligently than ever before, the form of Christian healing. This is the babe we are to cherish.”
Mary Baker Eddy
Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p.370
"Where charity stands watching
And faith holds wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
And Christmas comes once more."
Phillips Brooks

Gratitude – a doorway to good, God

Gratitude may sound counter-intuitive when there seems nothing to be grateful for. But this writer found that being grateful for the good at hand released her from feelings of desperation. Soon there was a turn-around in her circumstances. Read how it happened…

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6, 7, New Living Translation

“Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more.”

How I stopped fighting with my sister

All they did was argue and fight. So how did this teenage writer change, in a moment, from feeling totally justified in her anger and negative thoughts towards her sister to feeling genuine love for her from that moment on. Read how …

Where is my good Samaritan?

"Doing good to my fellowman...had to begin in my own consciousness, and…start with prayer…to be both practical and safe."

Disappointed that nobody stopped to help when her car broke down on a busy highway, this writer felt angry. As she prayed to more deeply understand the parable of the good Samaritan, she gradually found that self-pity was replaced with genuine gratitude for any evidence of good. Read about her experience.

"Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise."
Christ Jesus
Luke 10:36, 37
